Booking Agreement & Conditions

Booking arrangements represent a contract between you as the traveller and Curious Journeys (‘Curious Journeys’)

All bookings are subject to the following terms and conditions:


    1. On making a booking with us, each person travelling must accept the terms of these Booking Conditions and pay a deposit of ZAR2,500.00 per traveller. The balance must be paid at least 60 days before your arrival date. For bookings made within 60 days of arrival, the full payment becomes due immediately. Any cancellation of a confirmed booking or late or non-payment of the balance will carry cancellation charges as set out in Clause 3 below.

    2. Your booking is considered confirmed and a contract will exist between you and Curious Journeys only when the deposit has been received (or, in the case of bookings made less than 4 weeks prior to arrival, when full payment is required at time of booking) and a confirmation receipt is sent to you. No contract will exist between us prior to our issuing the confirmation receipt. If the balance of the price of your journey is not paid in time, we reserve the right to cancel your journey, retain your deposit and apply the Cancellation Charge set out in Clause 3.

    3. We reserve the right to increase or decrease the cost of your journey published prior to the time that you book your journey. Any change in cost will be advised to you before you book the journey.


    Our journey offering includes all items that are specified on our web site at for the particular journey. Items not explicitly specified are not included in the cost of the journey and are for your cost. 


    You (or any member of your party) may cancel your journey at any time providing that the cancellation is made by the person who made the booking and is communicated to us in writing.

    Cancellation will take effect on the day such notification is received by us and acknowledged by us in writing to you. If you fail to pay your deposit or balance by the due date then your journey will be automatically cancelled. As cancellation incurs administrative costs, we will retain your deposit and, in addition, may apply cancellation charges as follows:

    • 60 - 50 days or more before arrival: 30% of journey cost

    • 49 - 40 days before arrival: 60% of journey cost

    • Less than 39 days before arrival: 100% of journey cost

    • or if differently specified on a particular tour itinerary, then such cancellation charges apply

    Once your journey has commenced, no refund or part refund or unused portion of your journey will be repaid in the event of cancellation by you. If the reason for cancellation is covered under the terms of an Insurance Policy, it is your responsibility to claim these charges. We are not responsible for any of your own costs.


    We strongly recommend that you arrange your own travel and health insurance to cover you during the course of your journey.

    Suitable public liability insurance is in place that will cover you for accidents that occur during the activities that are part of your journey and that are caused by any negligence on the part of our suppliers.


    In the event of any circumstances that are beyond our control, we reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary published on our web site and advise you accordingly. If your accommodation has to be changed, we will do our utmost to provide accommodation of a similar rating. If a significant change becomes necessary, we will inform you as soon as reasonably possible if there is time before your arrival to do so. Should a significant change occur before your arrival, then provided that it does not arise through circumstances amounting to force majeure (see below), you will have the choice of either accepting the change of arrangements, booking another journey with us, or cancelling your journey and receiving a full refund. If you choose another journey with us that is more expensive you will be required to pay any difference, and if it is less expensive, we will refund you appropriately.

    Refunds will not apply if payment for your journey has not been received by us by the stipulated payment date. Refunds will also not be paid if we are forced to cancel or in any way change your journey due to unusual or unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control such as war, threat of war, riot, civil strife, industrial dispute, terrorist activity, natural or nuclear disaster, epidemics and pandemics,fire, adverse weather conditions (including snow and volcanic ash), technical or maintenance problems with transport, or other circumstances which amount to force majeure.


    We reserve the right to cancel your journey, in which case we will offer you a refund in full of all monies paid or an alternative journey.


    1. We accept responsibility for ensuring that the journey you book with us is supplied as described on our web site and that the services which we are contractually obliged to provide, are to a reasonable standard. We accept responsibility for the acts and/or omissions of our employees, agents and suppliers except where they lead to death, injury or illness (see below). However we will not be liable where any failure in the performance on the part of a third party who is not connected with the provision of your journey as undertaken by us for any reason whatsoever. Our liability will also be limited to a maximum of twice the price paid for your journey, other than instances that are covered by insurance.

    2. We accept responsibility for death, injury or illness caused by the negligent acts and/or omissions of our employees or agents, together with our suppliers and sub-contractors, servants and/or agents of the same whilst acting within the scope of, or in the course of their employment in the provision of your journey. We will, accordingly, pay to our client such damages as might have been awarded in such circumstances in law.

    3. Optional trips booked locally are not our responsibility.


    Should you experience a problem during the course of your journey, you are required inform a member of our team immediately who, provided that it falls within the scope of your journey, will endeavour to correct things. If your complaint cannot be resolved locally, you must advise us in writing upon your return within 10 days. If you do not follow this simple procedure we will have been deprived of the opportunity to investigate and rectify your complaint whilst on your journey which may affect your right to demand rectification. Please note that we cannot guarantee the proportion of male/female in any group and we are not be responsible for the behaviour individual or group member or other guest.


    You are responsible for ensuring that you have a valid passport and any necessary visas and any necessary or required inoculations or other health requirements. We do not accept any responsibility if you cannot travel because you do not have the correct documents to travel.


    This contract is made on the terms of these Booking Conditions, which are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa and the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African Courts.
